Unhappy a Pet Peeve, or two ;p (lfg vs lfp)

see for yourself , check the PARTY Formation List when you join a PARTY...

everytime i see som1 ad "lfg" i cant help but wonder why.. tonight i finally said something.. aka "lfg=looking for guild, lfp=looking for party, logical isint it" to which i was called a noob & told if i new anything about gaming id know lfg = looking for group..

well i been net wise since 1996 , played online games from dodgy link type adventure rpg's to darkspace,mu,xiah, not to mention a whole host of text based crap & 90% of the time a hunting party was just that , a Party..

Seems also logical , i mean you have a game with both guilds & groups(parties) so to make easier for abbrevs & such u would make one different capital, aka P for Party , which if u look at your list when you join a "group" it says PARTY FORMATION , it doesnt say Group Formation does it ? sigh..

i know this is a pretty sad peeve but its mine nonetheless, do i have a point or am i just peeing into the wind?

oh also annoyed with lamerz who try to sell me runes that arent my primary, (they really gotta put a warning on these types of items) actually got sucked in tonight for 500g after i partied som1 & afterwards they offered me the rune, seeing healing & being tired maybe subconcsiesly building a trust for this elessa person , i fell for it & well got called a noob etcetc & laughed at ...ya i thought it was funny too.. <_<

sigh... Gotta love that Human Spirit.. so honest, so honourable, so...

i totally agree with original poster

it is asinine and ludicrous that "LFG" 'supposedly' means looking for group

when i see someone say LFG i invite them into my Guild. if i get the message that they are already in a Guild, then i whisper them that they are not-so-bright for saying LFG when they are already in a Guild

Majority rules when it comes to informal abbreviations in common usage. And majority says that lfg = looking for group.

Navaros you might wanna steer clear of the HoH then lest you be whispering hundreds of people in a few hours.

LFG has always meant Looking for Group and I really can't recall a single time that the G has meant Guild.

If someone's looking for a guild they'll go "Looking for guild!"

No reason to abbreviate that.

Hehe, people might have more of an argument on their side if there were recruiters typing "g looking for recruits! We have g capes and a g hall! Active g members only!"

LFG = Looking for group. Always has been since day one for me.

Oh, and to the original poster, I am Bill Gates and I have been in playing online games from dodgy link since 1876 and the type of adventure rpg's to darkspace,mu,xiah, tron, Evercracks and Dark Age of Zealots.

Just go with the flow, LFG = Looking for Group.

Unless your guild is 2,998,366 guild members in size from all the lucky LFG people you just amassed into your guild. Good on ya for getting all those Looking for Guilds people.

Who spams "looking for guild"? I would never join a guild that just accepted every spammer that came along. Nor would I invite anyone randomly spamming for a guild invite. What kind of a guild would that make?

just think its illogical.. so i guess a rally to get LFP is off the boards?

see if som1 just says LFG , i also consciesly feel to pm them & see if my guild interests them.. i bet you this is another one of them yankie things where they just have to be confusingly different to be well .. different like driving on the wrong side of the road.. I bet you bastages even manage to throw your cats down on their heads/backs & drop toast so the butter lands up, & yea im onto that water down the dunny swirling wrong way conspiracy also >.<

ok well i spose ill just conform to the majority & go with the flow , but it doesnt mean i have to agree with it ^_^

Till my next Rant :Inpatient quitters

bwuahahhaha ",..,"

Well my butter does land up, never thought about it.

And there's a scientific explanation as to why it does that. Now what it is, I dunno, but I know there's a reasonable explanation for it.

Guild Wars has been the first game where I've seen LFG used. In other games it's always been LFP. But whatever, it makes no difference to me.

In my own experiences

LFP and LFM means you are already in a party and looking for more

LFP (looking for players)
LFM (looking for more)

I did take a breather from MMORPG's for a year or so. BUT from Ultima Online/Dark Ages of Camelot/Everquest it was always LFG to mean looking for a group. And seeing as how many of us playing have jumped from online game to online game--I think LFG is prob going to stay.

honestly i don't see any reason to abbreviate anything in the first place, and i myself always write my sentences in full, but that's just me.

Quote:
LFM (looking for more)
people have been using that as "looking for monk"
